The Weaving Shed Gallery is a small private gallery, open for viewing by appointment only. Perfectly situated by the sea, overlooking Hillswick shore and the amazing St Magnus Bay on The Shetland Isles. Hosting some of Europe's wildest, most unspoiled coastal scenery The Shetlands are a small group of Islands halfway between Scotland and Scandinavia.
The gloriously renovated building is of great historical interest.
Restored and rebuilt in 2017 by Geoff Jukes as a tribute to his late partner Jeannette-Thérèse Obstoj.
Jeannette was a visionary writer, lyricist, poet, artist, and music video director.
The gallery now houses a permanent exhibition of Jeannette’s paintings. The building allows for an ever-changing space for pop up exhibitions allowing local or visiting artists to display/exhibit their work.
This modest gallery is occasionally used for community activities, such as film shows and musical performances. It contains professional sound and projection systems.
Adjoining the gallery is a fully-equipped studio apartment.
This accommodation is available via Airbnb during mid summer and for the remainder of the year is used for the ‘Creator in Residence programme’, a project for those artists interested in utilising this unique and inspiring space for an extended stay of four weeks or more.
We give great thanks to the Northmavine Community Development Company who administer this program.
Currently the gallery opens by appointment only. However, we hope in the future to have summer public opening times. Please see our facebook page for more regular updates.
